What English Coach is
English Coach is a language-learning app. It assesses your English on your own device and can issue a Graded English Proficiency (GEP) certificate recording that assessment.
What a certificate is — and is not
A GEP certificate records an unsupervised, on-device assessment aligned to CEFR levels A1 to C2. It is not a proctored examination, not a regulated qualification, and has no affiliation with IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge Assessment English, the British Council, Ofqual or any government body. Exam practice tests are preparation tools that estimate a band; they are not official scores and must not be presented as such. You must not represent a certificate as anything other than what it says on its face.
Verification pages
If you publish a certificate, we host a public page for it. We may remove or revoke a page where the certificate was obtained by circumventing the app, where the page is used to mislead, or where we are required to by law. You can ask us to remove your page at any time.
Subscriptions
Premium is sold as an auto-renewing subscription through Apple, including a 7-day free trial where offered. The trial converts to a paid period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Manage or cancel in Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions. Refunds are handled by Apple under their terms. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.
Acceptable use
Do not attempt to forge certificates, tamper with the app or its data, attack or overload the verification service, or scrape it in bulk. Do not use the service to harass anyone or to publish someone else's name.
Availability and liability
We work to keep the service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access; the app itself keeps working offline. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for any decision a third party makes on the basis of a certificate.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have exclusive jurisdiction.
